Alpine summer in Austria
Spend your mountain holidays in Austria
Every year the end of the alpine pasture season is celebrated with the traditional Almabtrieb in autumn. Colourfully decorated cows are brought back from the mountains to the valley. A custom, which is also celebrated in Unken. Experience this mountain event in Austria during your family holiday at the Post Family Hotel.
Autumn is the time of the year, when the farmers make preparations for the upcoming winter and drive their cattle back to the valley. This custom is celebrated with a big festival in Salzburgerland.
Splendidly decorated animals at the Almabtrieb in Salzburgerland
Your children won't believe their eyes, when they see the cows decorated with twigs, ribbons, wreaths and little mirrors. Big bells will be put around the cattle's' necks. As soon as the animals reach the valley the festival starts with folk music and traditional performances.
Salzburg Harvest Festival
The Almabtrieb takes place in the course of the Salzburg Harvest Festival. In September and October there are further traditional events in Salzburgerland, like farmer's markets with all the regional products. Visit the festivals and markets with your children or on your own. The Post Family Hotel offers child care as well as a babysitting service for your toddlers for 70 hours a week.
